Exploring Space on Louisiana's Other Side
2 Days/1 night
Day One
Louisiana's Other Side has many family-friendly itineraries already planned for you. Sci-Port Discovery Center offers more than 200 hands-on exhibits for all ages, making learning fun and interactive. Take in the daily show at the five-story IMAX Theater and advance your science, math and technology education with the brand new 40-foot SPACE DOME interactive planetarium. The planetarium has a multi-media star field system using digital technology to involve audiences in navigating the universe - the first of its kind in the United States. While you are there, take in 60 additional interactive space exhibits, 30 interactive math exhibits and three themed play spaces.
Step outside and explore the mighty Red River on the Spirit of the Red River Cruise hour-long adventure. You'll learn about the city's history and natural wildlife as you drift down the Red River on this guided boat tour.
Head back to the skies at the Barksdale Air Force Base, home to the Eighth Air Force Museum and B-52 Bomber. Visit the 12,000-sq.-ft. museum with nine acres of outdoor displays which consist of planes and more. View authentic uniforms, dioramas, aircraft, and a 30-seat theater. Seventeen planes are showcased outdoors, including the P-51 Mustang and the B-17 Flying Fortress.
View more than 1,000 specimens of world wildlife, art and history in beautiful hand-painted backgrounds that show the wildlife in their natural environments at the Touchstone Wildlife and Art Museum.
Day Two
Start the day off exploring vintage cars at the Ark-La-Tex Antique & Classic Vehicle Museum in downtown Shreveport and walk among more than thirty antique vehicles and motorcycles, some of which are even for sale.
Then head south to the Bayou Pierre Alligator Park, just a short one-hour drive from downtown Shreveport. Wander through Alligator Island to see hundreds of young gators in various growth phases, and even have your picture taken with one. Get alligator-themed trinkets from the gift shop so you can show off your adventure to all your friends when you return home.
